
On November 12, the Kretinga District Municipality hosted a seminar-discussion entitled „The Experience of Small Municipalities in Lithuania in Developing District Heating Systems and their future prospects”. The event was organised jointly by the Kretinga District Municipality, Kretinga District Heating Company, and the Lithuanian Energy Institute, which are all DecarbonDHS partners.
The seminar introduced the DecarbonDHS project, its ongoing activities, and insights from partner countries on advancing district heating decarbonization. Donatas Gedmintas, CEO of the Kretinga District Heating Company, presented the company’s recent achievements, including investment projects completed over the past five years and its involvement in international initiatives.
Guest speakers shared their experiences at the seminar: Mindaugas Nevardauskas, CEO of Alytus DH company, Tomas Janušas, Deputy Director for Commerce and Investments at Jonava DH company, and Dainius Budrys, CEO of Plungė DH company. The presentations focused particularly on the digitization of centralized heat supply, which is seen as a promising and inevitable trend for the development and modernization of such systems, decarbonizing the heat supply sector and transitioning to fourth or even fifth generation systems.
Justas Šereika, representative of the Lithuanian Energy Institute, also presented a report on the project’s activities regarding the assessment of new development opportunities in Kretinga using the nPro software.
In addition to representatives from the aforementioned district heating companies in Kretinga, Alytus, Jonava, and Plungė, the seminar-discussion was attended by guests from neighboring heat supply companies in Šilutė and Šilalė, as well as representatives from Klaipėda University, and Klaipėda State College.
