On 6 November 2025, the Baltic District Heating Innovation Forum took place in Gdańsk, Poland, hosted by the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery, Polish Academy of Sciences (IMP PAN), in cooperation with SweHeat and Cooling. The event gathered more than 70 participants onsite and over 40 online from Poland, Lithuania, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark — representing district heating companies, municipalities, and academia. Together, they explored innovative pathways towards a sustainable and decarbonized district heating sector in the Baltic Sea Region.
Throughout the day, experts and practitioners discussed key topics shaping the energy transition — from digitalization, predictive maintenance, and waste heat recovery, to customer integration and demand-side flexibility.
Renowned organizations such as FVB Sverige AB, Forum Energii, Öresundskraft AB, Alfa Laval, NODA Intelligent Systems, Energy Opticon AB, and SWEP International AB shared insights and best practices, highlighting the power of knowledge exchange and cross-border cooperation.
Key takeaways:
✅ Despite different national experiences and approaches, we share one goal — building sustainable, safe, and decarbonized heating systems for the future.
✅ Every system is unique — effective solutions require understanding local conditions and challenges, and aligning innovation to meet them.
This cross-project event was co-organized within the frameworks of the DecarbonDHS, BES (Interreg South Baltic Programme), Energy Equilibrium (Interreg Baltic Sea Region), and DeCrises (Horizon Europe) projects. It clearly demonstrated how collaboration across EU initiatives strengthens innovation and shared understanding across the region.
A warm thank you to all speakers, moderators, and participants for contributing to this inspiring and successful event!
