On 14–15 April 2026, representatives of IWEN Energy Institute gGmbH, a partner in the DecarbonDHS project, participated in the 9th Power Plant Forum in Schwerin-Crivitz, Germany. Organised by the district heating operator enviMV, the annual conference brought together experts from the energy sector to discuss the latest developments and practical solutions supporting the energy transition.
The two-day event combined expert presentations, panel and open discussions, technical site visits and networking opportunities. The programme covered a wide range of topics relevant to the decarbonisation of district heating systems, including geothermal energy, large-scale solar thermal installations, green ammonia production, grid infrastructure and innovative energy technologies. Practical examples such as the geothermal plant in Schwerin and the solar thermal plant in Stralsund demonstrated how renewable energy sources are already being integrated into district heating networks.
During the conference, Jonathan Aschenbrenner and Yannik Schütze from IWEN actively participated in discussions on future-oriented energy projects in northern Germany. They also introduced the DecarbonDHS project in conversations with conference participants, exploring potential synergies with regional initiatives and exchanging experiences on the decarbonisation of district heating systems.
The forum provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, networking and strengthening cooperation between research organisations, utilities, industry representatives and public authorities. Participation in the event contributed to increasing the visibility of the DecarbonDHS project while fostering dialogue on practical approaches to achieving climate-neutral district heating across the Baltic Sea Region.
